Alima Khan Accuses Authorities of Targeting Her
Alima Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has alleged that the authorities are attempting to arrest and detain her as part of a wider campaign to suppress political dissent.
Speaking to journalists outside the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday, Alima Khan said she was ready to face arrest and would not be intimidated by what she described as politically motivated actions.
I am prepared for any consequences, she told reporters. Several fabricated cases have been filed against me, but I will continue to fight for justice and for my brother, Imran Khan.
Police Arrive in Islamabad to Execute Arrest Warrants
According to official sources, officers from the Punjab Police accompanied Alima Khan to Islamabad to enforce arrest warrants issued against her. Earlier, an Anti-Terrorism Court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for her in the November 26 protest case, further intensifying legal pressure on the PTI leader’s family. Senior Police Officer Azhar Shah, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), was reportedly present to ensure compliance with court orders.
Local media reported that the warrants were executed following directions from the relevant court, although it remains unclear which specific case prompted the latest action. The development comes amid an ongoing crackdown on PTI leaders and supporters across Pakistan, which has intensified since Imran Khan’s removal from office in April 2022.
Allegations of Political Victimization
Alima Khan described the cases against her as a clear example of political victimization. She accused the government of trying to silence opposition voices, particularly those linked to her brother’s party.
These actions are not about justice; they are about revenge, she said. They want to imprison us because we continue to speak the truth. But we will not give up. We are standing firm for Pakistan’s future and for justice.
Her comments reflect growing concerns among PTI supporters about the alleged use of state institutions — including the police and judiciary — to pressure party members. The party has consistently claimed that its leadership is being targeted through what it calls false and politically driven investigations.
Continued Crackdown on PTI Leadership
Since Imran Khan’s ouster, dozens of PTI leaders have been arrested on various charges ranging from corruption to incitement of violence. Imran Khan himself remains in jail after being convicted in multiple cases, which his supporters and legal team insist are politically motivated.
Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, have also expressed concern over Pakistan’s treatment of opposition figures and the shrinking space for political dissent. In several reports, they have urged the authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure fair trials for all political detainees.
The Pakistani government, however, denies any political bias. Officials maintain that all legal actions against PTI leaders, including Alima Khan, are based on legitimate criminal proceedings and not political vendettas.
Alima Khan Vows to Continue Her Struggle
Despite the mounting pressure, Alima Khan reiterated her resolve to continue supporting her brother’s political cause. She emphasized that she would not be deterred by arrests or intimidation.
I am not afraid of imprisonment, she declared. We are standing for the truth, and no amount of political pressure will stop us. This struggle is not just for Imran Khan but for the people of Pakistan who deserve justice and transparency.
Her defiant stance has resonated with PTI supporters, many of whom view her as a symbol of resilience in the face of state repression.
Broader Political Implications
Alima Khan’s statement adds another layer to Pakistan’s increasingly polarized political climate. The country continues to grapple with economic instability, rising inflation, and strained civil-military relations — all of which have deepened political divisions.
Analysts note that the repeated arrests of PTI leaders have further inflamed tensions, undermining prospects for political reconciliation. As Pakistan moves closer to another election cycle, the ongoing confrontation between the PTI and the ruling coalition appears far from resolution.
For now, Alima Khan’s declaration underscores a larger narrative — one of defiance against what she and her supporters see as systematic efforts to suppress opposition voices in Pakistan’s turbulent democracy.
