Apple has released iOS 27 with a major artificial intelligence upgrade to Siri, along with a redesigned interface, new personalisation options, improved safety features and performance enhancements.
The latest operating system introduces a more capable Siri designed to support natural conversations, understand personal context and recognise what is displayed on the screen. It can also assist with multi-step tasks and provide writing support.
Major Siri AI overhaul
The new Siri is initially available in beta on devices using English language settings. Apple plans to expand support to additional languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, in October.
The company says the redesigned Siri is intended to make the virtual assistant more useful by combining expanded AI capabilities with greater awareness of the user’s context and on-screen content.
iOS 27 also brings improvements to Visual Intelligence, giving users more AI-powered ways to interact with information and content on their devices.
New photo and camera features
Apple has added several AI-powered tools for editing and managing photos.
The update includes improved photo editing, enhanced Cleanup capabilities and spatial reframing. Camera intelligence has also been improved to provide users with additional assistance while taking and managing images.
These features are part of Apple’s broader effort to integrate AI into everyday iPhone functions rather than limiting it to a standalone assistant.

Liquid Glass and interface changes
iOS 27 introduces additional customisation options for Apple’s Liquid Glass interface.
A new opacity slider allows users to adjust the appearance of interface elements between a more transparent and a frosted look. Built-in app icons have also been redesigned, while larger widgets provide more options for displaying information on the Home Screen.
Apple has also introduced more granular controls for system sounds, allowing users to adjust volume settings for ringtones, alarms, timers, alerts and other system sounds.
Safety, communication and accessibility
The update includes new child-safety and parental-control features designed to provide greater protection for younger users.
Apple has also made improvements to AirDrop and RCS messaging, while Safari, Messages and Mail receive additional refinements.
Further updates include expanded accessibility features, greater personalisation options and performance improvements designed to enhance the overall iPhone experience.
iPhone compatibility
iOS 27 is being released alongside Apple’s latest iPhone lineup, including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The operating system is compatible with the iPhone 11 series and newer models, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE and later versions.
