Islamabad: (Dunya News) An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub in connection with a protest case dating back to October 4.
The case also involves senior PTI leader Senator Azam Swati and other party workers.
The hearing was conducted by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. During the proceedings, PTI lawyers including Sardar Muhammad Masroof Khan Advocate, Zahid Bashir Dar, and others appeared before the court on behalf of the PTI workers.
Senator Azam Swati submitted a request for exemption from personal appearance, which the court accepted. However, Omar Ayub and several other accused did not appear before the court, prompting the judge to issue bailable arrest warrants against them.
The court further ordered that the surety bonds of the absent accused be confiscated. The case, which pertains to a protest allegedly involving charges of violence and disorder, has now been adjourned for further hearing until July 30.
It is worth noting that PTI leaders have been facing multiple legal challenges in connection with protest demonstrations held following political unrest in the country, particularly during the latter half of 2023.
