Donkey Meat Scam Busted in Islamabad

Experts Reveal Simple Ways to Identify Illegal or Non-Halal Meat

In a shocking discovery, a gang selling donkey meat in Islamabad has been caught red-handed. This illegal meat was allegedly being distributed to restaurants, shops, and even school canteens.

Amid rising concerns, animal health experts have shared simple methods to identify donkey or non-halal meat. According to them, meat from halal-slaughtered animals is usually bright cherry red, while meat from dead or non-halal animals often appears dark red or has a bluish tint — a key indicator of donkey meat.

The experts also advised that if there’s any doubt about meat quality, advanced lab tests such as ELISA or PCR can confirm the species of origin.

In a recent raid in Shahpur, Islamabad police, along with livestock authorities, seized several maunds (hundreds of kilograms) of suspected donkey meat. A criminal case has been registered against the suspects, and legal action is underway.

Doctors warn that consuming donkey meat poses serious health risks, including food poisoning, intestinal diseases, and bacterial infections. They strongly urge the public to pay attention to the color, smell, and texture of the meat they purchase.

The Food Authority and Livestock Department have appealed to the public to only buy meat from reputable butchers and busy shops, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the helpline for strict action against those endangering public health.
