Chief of Defence Forces witnesses trials of locally manufactured arms and ammunition as POF expands indigenous defence production capabilities.
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) in Wah, where he reviewed the country’s defence production capabilities, ongoing indigenisation efforts and progress in expanding the national defence industrial base.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit focused on POF Wah’s production capacity, export potential and its contribution to strengthening Pakistan’s defence sector through locally developed and manufactured military equipment.
Briefing on POF Operations and Defence Production
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir was given a detailed briefing on various aspects of POF’s operations and its role in meeting the country’s defence requirements.
The military’s media wing said the briefing highlighted the indigenous development and production of a diverse range of defence equipment. The focus was also placed on strengthening local manufacturing capabilities to reduce dependence on external sources.
POF Wah is one of Pakistan’s key defence production complexes and is involved in the manufacturing of a wide range of military equipment, including arms and ammunition. The latest visit highlighted the importance being placed on technological development and domestic production within the defence sector.
Locally Manufactured Arms and Ammunition Tested
The CDF also witnessed tests and trials of locally designed and manufactured arms and ammunition.
According to ISPR, the trials demonstrated POF’s efforts towards innovation, technological development and self-reliance in defence production.
The testing of indigenous products was aimed at reviewing their performance and production capabilities, while also reflecting the organisation’s focus on developing equipment suited to national defence requirements.

Two New Industrial Plants to Begin Production
Field Marshal Asim Munir was also briefed about the ongoing indigenisation and modernisation initiatives at POF Wah.
ISPR said two new industrial plants are being installed as part of efforts to upgrade and expand production capacity. Both plants are expected to commence production by the end of the current year.
The expansion is likely to further strengthen local defence manufacturing and support Pakistan’s broader efforts to enhance its indigenous industrial capabilities.
Progress on Corporatisation Process Reviewed
During the visit, the army chief was also given an overview of progress on the corporatisation process following the enactment of the Defence Industrial Production and Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DIPRA) Ordinance.
The briefing covered developments related to the restructuring and future direction of the defence production sector under the new regulatory framework.
Focus on Self-Reliance and Technological Innovation
According to ISPR, the visit underscored the military leadership’s commitment to promoting self-reliance, indigenous manufacturing and technological innovation in Pakistan’s defence sector.
The focus on locally designed equipment, industrial expansion and production upgrades reflects a broader effort to strengthen the country’s defence industrial base.
With new production facilities expected to become operational by the end of the year, the ongoing initiatives at POF Wah are aimed at increasing manufacturing capacity while supporting Pakistan’s long-term objective of greater self-sufficiency in defence production.
