Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a nationwide alert, forecasting heavy rainfall starting today. The warning includes the potential for flash floods, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and possible landslides in mountainous regions.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rescue operations led by the Pakistan Army and GB Scouts have intensified in flood-affected regions. Multiple homes have been swept away by floodwaters, and several connecting bridges have been damaged or destroyed.
According to the GB government, human remains have been discovered in flood debris near the Thak Bhasha area. The remains are being sent for forensic examination. In Niyat Valley, eight small villages have been completely submerged, resulting in large-scale destruction. To speed up relief efforts, the Deputy Commissioner has been dispatched to the affected region.
Meanwhile, a powerful flood wave from the Indus River has entered the Dera Ghazi Khan district via Taunsa, while the Chenab River has overflowed into more than 10 villages in Jhang, as detailed in this flood alert for the Chenab and Jhelum rivers.
The flooding has caused extensive damage to crops, homes, and infrastructure. Access roads have also been inundated, disrupting mobility and communication.
Authorities have issued a high alert across vulnerable areas and have directed immediate emergency response actions to minimize loss and provide relief.
