Private Clinic Sealed in Gujrat After Severe Negligence During Infant’s Circumcision

Authorities launch investigation after 40-day-old baby suffers severe injury; health department vows strict action.

Clinic Shut Down Following Tragic Medical Error

Gujrat, Pakistan — Authorities in Punjab’s Gujrat district have sealed a private medical facility following a case of alleged medical negligence that resulted in the loss of an infant’s organ during a circumcision procedure.

According to officials, the incident took place at Ramzan and Safdar Polyclinic in Deona Mandi, where a 40-day-old baby was brought in for a routine circumcision. During the procedure, the attending doctor reportedly made a grave error, leading to irreversible damage.

Immediate Action Ordered by District Administration

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Noorul Ain directed the District Health Department to take immediate action after the incident came to light. Following her orders, a health inspection team visited the clinic, sealed the premises, and began an official inquiry.

An initial report suggests that gross negligence by the medical staff may have caused the injury. However, officials stated that final conclusions will be drawn only after a detailed investigation. The clinic’s records, licenses, and the credentials of the involved doctor are being reviewed.

Health Department Vows Accountability

In a press statement, district authorities emphasized that anyone endangering human life or health will face strict legal consequences. The administration has reaffirmed its commitment to enforce medical safety standards in all private facilities operating in the region.

Officials also noted that unregistered or inadequately staffed clinics pose a growing challenge in smaller towns. In Punjab alone, hundreds of private facilities operate without proper supervision, raising concerns about patient safety and quality of care.

Broader Concerns Over Medical Oversight

This case has reignited debate about medical regulation and patient protection in Pakistan’s healthcare system. Experts have repeatedly urged stronger oversight of private practitioners, especially in rural areas where qualified doctors are often scarce.

Public health advocates are calling for mandatory certification and stricter monitoring of private clinics to prevent such tragedies in the future.
