Imran Khan to Lead Movement from Jail, Says Barrister Gohar

PTI leader rejects internal rifts and confirms Khan’s direct command of the movement despite imprisonment

Barrister Gohar, senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has confirmed that Imran Khan will personally lead the party’s movement from jail, a decision he has made himself.

Speaking to the media, Gohar emphasized that the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were conducted smoothly and transparently, with most names finalized as early as March 2024. Only decisions regarding reserved seats took additional time.

When questioned about alleged favoritism—particularly claims that individuals who held press conferences against the events of May 9 were awarded tickets over ideological workers—Barrister Gohar strongly rejected these allegations, calling them baseless.

He also dismissed reports of senior leaders being denied access to Imran Khan, stating that the last meeting was held by Barrister Saif, followed by visits from Khan’s sisters, after which no one else was allowed. He clarified that no one has been expelled from PTI; those who left did so on their own accord.

Barrister Gohar reiterated PTI’s unified stance, saying:

“Imran Khan remains the most popular leader in the country. Despite being in jail on politically motivated and fabricated charges, he will lead this movement with full force.”

He further asserted that the movement will reach its peak on August 5, and ruled out any future negotiations, stating:

“That time has passed. We don’t need anyone’s cooperation now.”

He also noted that Imran Khan’s sons have the right to support this movement, as it is part of their father’s struggle for democracy and justice. For more details on Imran Khan’s call for a nationwide movement — and how his sons may play a role in it — read this full report here.

It’s important to recall that since the events of May 9 and Khan’s imprisonment, PTI has faced internal challenges and leadership questions. However, the party leadership continues to affirm that Imran Khan remains the true face of PTI, and the guiding force behind its ongoing movement.
