Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday stated that the medical team overseeing former prime minister Imran Khan’s eye treatment has expressed complete satisfaction with his ongoing care.
Speaking at a lawyers’ ceremony in Ferozewala, Tarar said Khan underwent a repeat medical examination. One of his eyes now has approximately 70% vision with corrective glasses, while the other eye retains normal 6×6 vision.
He also dismissed concerns about specific visual measurements — sometimes referred to as the “35/25” issue — noting that the medical team had briefed opposition leaders and Imran Khan’s personal doctors.
Medical background and examination
Imran Khan was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition linked to older age and cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Previously, he had reported losing nearly 85% of vision in his right eye.

A panel of five senior doctors conducted a detailed, hour-long examination, following a judicial deadline set by the Supreme Court of Pakistan requiring a full medical report by February 16. Sources confirmed that Khan’s right-eye pain had reduced significantly after the assessment, and further improvement is expected with continued treatment.
Specialist doctors from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Al-Shifa International Hospital expressed satisfaction with Khan’s condition and noted significant improvement in eyesight. Jail authorities have forwarded his full medical records — including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood sugar charts — to the Punjab Home Department.
Political context and protests
Political activity around Khan’s health has intensified. Mahmood Khan Achakzai, chief of Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP), called a meeting of MNAs and senators to discuss future protest strategies.
Law Minister Tarar also addressed road blockades, declaring closures of motorways and the Grand Trunk Road “illegal and unconstitutional,” warning that the federal government may intervene if the Constitution is violated. He emphasized Article 15, which guarantees the freedom of movement to all citizens, and stressed that PTI leaders are responsible for ensuring lawful conduct by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Additionally, Tarar announced a special fund of Rs10 million for the Ferozewala Bar to support lawyers facing financial difficulties after responsibilities were devolved to provincial governments following the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
