Islamabad – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has termed his 10-day visit to the United States and the United Nations as highly successful, stating that he effectively raised both the Palestine and Kashmir issues on the global stage.
During his visit, Dar chaired three key sessions of the UN Security Council, where Pakistan’s resolution on peaceful conflict resolution was unanimously adopted. The resolution is being hailed as a major achievement for Pakistan’s foreign policy at the international level.
He also participated in the Palestine Conference jointly organized by France and Saudi Arabia, where he urged the international community to recognize a Palestinian state and grant full UN membership to Palestine. Notably, shortly after his speech, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced conditional recognition of Palestine by September, while France also signaled support for the two-state solution.
Speaking on his return from Istanbul Airport, Ishaq Dar shared that he contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif via phone to request urgent food aid for Gaza. The Prime Minister immediately approved 200 tons of food supplies, and instructions were issued to NDMA and the Foreign Office to ensure swift delivery.
Dar also held bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from eight countries, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and engaged in discussions with his U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio. Additionally, he connected with Pakistani diaspora members and American business leaders, strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
Analysts believe that just as Dar played a pivotal role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy as Finance Minister, his recent diplomatic efforts at the UN have helped amplify Pakistan’s stance on international platforms through strategic dialogue and skilled diplomacy.
Pakistan has recently stepped up its solidarity with the Palestinian people, maintaining a firm stance against recognizing Israel, supporting a two-state solution, and providing humanitarian aid. The unanimous approval of Pakistan’s resolution at the UN is widely seen as a notable diplomatic triumph.
