The district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have announced the immediate suspension of public and goods transport, citing security considerations amid speculation about a possible new round of US-Iran talks in the capital.

Officials confirmed that the suspension will remain in place until further notice, with no timeline provided for restoration of transport services.

Transport Services Suspended

The Islamabad Deputy Commissioner ordered the suspension of heavy and public transport across the city, urging citizens to cooperate with security authorities.

“All heavy transport and public transport in the city are being suspended until further orders,” the DC said in a post on social media platform X.

Similarly, the Rawalpindi administration also halted all private, public, and goods transport services with immediate effect. Officials stated that further updates would be issued as the situation develops.

Security Measures Intensified

In parallel, security arrangements in Rawalpindi have been significantly strengthened following directives from City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani.

According to state media reports, more than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city to ensure security preparedness.

Over 600 checkpoints have been established at key entry and exit points, with strict monitoring of movement across sensitive areas.

Special units, including Elite Commandos, snipers, Elite Force, Dolphin Force, and rapid response teams, have been deployed for patrol and emergency response duties.

Surveillance and Intelligence Operations

Authorities have also intensified search, sweep, and intelligence-based operations across the region. Monitoring of suspicious activity and individuals has been increased.

In addition, surveillance through the Safe City network, CCTV cameras, and modern monitoring systems is being used for round-the-clock observation of key locations.

Security has been further reinforced around sensitive installations, government buildings, and important residential areas.

Link to Diplomatic Developments

The measures come amid speculation that Islamabad may host a second round of talks between the United States and Iran in the coming days, although no official confirmation has been issued by any of the involved parties.

Earlier reports suggested that Pakistan has been playing a mediating role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides, following a previous round of high-level discussions held in Islamabad.

Background of Ongoing Tensions

The broader regional situation remains tense following the conflict that escalated after a surprise attack involving the United States and Israel earlier this year, which disrupted ongoing diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

Previous talks in Islamabad marked one of the most significant direct engagements between the two sides in over a decade, focusing on issues including maritime security, nuclear concerns, and sanctions relief.

Uncertain Situation Ahead

For now, authorities have urged the public to remain calm and comply with security instructions, while transport restrictions and heightened policing remain in effect.

The situation remains fluid, with further updates expected as diplomatic and security developments unfold.
