Johnny Depp has opened up about the possibility of returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, saying his main interest would be helping the franchise reach a satisfying conclusion.
Speaking to Variety during the promotional tour for his upcoming film Ebenezer, Depp addressed speculation about his potential involvement in the next instalment. Although he did not confirm his return, the actor indicated that he would be willing to work with longtime friend and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the ‘Pirates’ franchise… the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” Depp said.
Trust in Bruckheimer
Depp also reaffirmed his confidence in Bruckheimer, saying he would be happy to work with the producer again regardless of the project.
Their longstanding friendship appears to be an important factor in Depp’s willingness to consider returning to the franchise. However, his comments suggest that the story and the way the series concludes would also play a significant role in any decision.
Bruckheimer previously expressed optimism about Depp reprising the iconic role. In 2025, the producer told Entertainment Weekly that the actor could be interested in returning if he liked the screenplay.
At the time, the script was still under development, with the creative team working to find the right direction for the next film.

Pirates Franchise Future
Depp portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in five Pirates of the Caribbean films released between 2003 and 2017. The franchise has earned approximately $4.5 billion worldwide, establishing itself as one of Disney’s most commercially successful film series.
Plans for a sixth instalment have been under discussion for several years. Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, who worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was previously attached to the project.
Bruckheimer has also publicly supported the possibility of Depp’s return, keeping speculation about the actor’s involvement alive.
No Official Confirmation Yet
Despite the latest comments, Depp has not confirmed that he will return as Jack Sparrow. Disney has also made no official casting or production announcement confirming his involvement in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
For now, the actor’s remarks leave the door open, with a satisfying ending to the franchise and his relationship with Bruckheimer emerging as important factors in any potential comeback.
