Lahore – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has responded sarcastically to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claims of being held in solitary confinement, suggesting that Khan doesn’t even know what actual isolation means.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Asif is seen addressing reporters, saying:
“What even is solitary confinement? Should we send him a cellmate to keep him company in the cell?”
He went on to explain that Khan is enjoying full prison facilities and that his complaints stem from growing frustration. Asif added that during Khan’s time in power, the way he mistreated political opponents was a “dark chapter in our history.”
Sharing his own prison experience, Khawaja Asif recalled:
“I was jailed for six months at Attock Fort, in a 6×4 cell — completely alone. The door opened at Fajr and closed again at Maghrib. That’s what true solitary confinement is.”
He emphasized that high-profile inmates are typically kept separate from ordinary prisoners and are usually assigned a helper, so the complaint about isolation is baseless.
Asif questioned the legitimacy of Khan’s grievance and mockingly asked:
“If this is solitary confinement, then what would he call real isolation? Should we prescribe a remedy for his version of it?”
He concluded by saying such complaints are politically motivated and meant to divert attention from larger issues.
