Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel has reportedly asked to leave the club at the age of 15, just days after scoring a hat-trick in Europe and amid expectations that he could soon receive his first opportunity with the senior team.
Gabriel, regarded as one of the most highly rated young players to emerge from Manchester United’s academy in recent years, has formally requested that the club cancel his registration so he can become a free agent.
The request has reportedly surprised United, particularly because of its timing.
Gabriel was in line for historic chance
The teenager was expected to be included in Michael Carrick’s squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton, a move that could have placed him within reach of breaking David Gaskell’s long-standing record as Manchester United’s youngest first-team player.
Gabriel’s recent form has strengthened expectations around his rapid development.
Last week, he scored a hat-trick against Sabah in the UEFA Youth League, further highlighting his potential at youth level.
The youngster scored 29 goals in 32 appearances for United’s Under-18 side and was named the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season last campaign.

According to The Times, relations between Gabriel’s family and Manchester United have broken down. His father has also reportedly removed Manchester United-related content from his social media accounts.
