Merub Ali has praised the growing influence of social media creators in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, highlighting Dananeer Mobeen and Romaisa Khan as examples of performers who have successfully moved from digital platforms to television.
In a recent interview, Ali discussed how social media has helped introduce fresh talent to the entertainment industry. She said performers should be judged on their abilities rather than the platforms through which they first gained public recognition.
Praise for Dananeer Mobeen
Speaking about Mobeen, Ali described her as an example of how social media can help talented newcomers find opportunities in showbiz.
“I just believe in talent. The perfect example of this is Dananeer and I am so happy that social media brought her here. Dananeer is so talented and if we did not have social media, it would be really difficult to navigate and find people like her,” Ali said.
She also praised Romaisa Khan, who built a substantial online following through her social media content before entering television.
“Romaisa is also a beautiful actress. I have seen her play various roles and her expressions and acting through her eyes. I don’t know how she does it. She is great and social media gave us that,” she added.
Dananeer Proved Her Critics Wrong
Ali also addressed the criticism Mobeen faced when she was cast in the popular drama Sinf-e-Aahan. At the time, some viewers questioned whether a social media influencer could perform alongside established television actors.
Recalling the reaction, Ali said: “During Sinf-e-Aahan, I remember people used to say that she is an influencer and you guys have let her get this far. She proved herself in that drama.”
Mobeen first rose to widespread fame in 2021 after her short video featuring the now-famous “Pawri Ho Rahi Hai” line went viral. The clip became a social media sensation, inspiring numerous recreations and memes.
She later made her television debut in Sinf-e-Aahan, playing Sidra alongside established performers including Sajal Aly, Yumna Zaidi, Kubra Khan, Syra Yousuf and Ramsha Khan.

Merub Ali’s Own Television Journey
Ali’s career also connects her to the discussion. Before becoming a familiar face on television, she worked as a model and developed a presence on social media.
She made her television debut in the 2021 drama Sinf-e-Aahan, which introduced her to a wider audience. She later appeared in projects including Paristan and Wabaal.
Ali is currently appearing as Rutba in the drama Izzat, alongside Atabik Mohsin and Hashaam Khan.
Having experienced her own transition into television, Ali’s appreciation of Mobeen and Khan reflects her understanding of the opportunities digital platforms can create for emerging performers.
Her comments highlight a changing entertainment landscape in which social media can serve as a route for discovering new talent. Ultimately, she believes an influencer background should not determine whether someone deserves a place in showbiz; the ability to perform and prove one’s talent on screen is what matters.
