Security sources have reported that two militants, including an Afghan national, were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on June 4, 2026. The operation is part of Pakistan’s broader counter-terrorism campaign in the region, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan.

According to officials, the action was carried out in a targeted manner, focusing on suspected militant presence in the area.

Identity and Material Recovered

One of the deceased militants was identified as an Afghan national named “Umar Bilal,” who, according to security sources, hailed from Khost province in Afghanistan. He was reportedly carrying an Afghan identity card at the time of the operation.

Authorities further stated that the militant was found with foreign currency, modern weaponry, and a suicide vest. These items suggest that he may have been involved in planned or ongoing militant activity, although official investigations typically determine final assessments.

The second militant killed in the operation has not been publicly identified so far.

Broader Counter-Terrorism Context

The operation comes amid intensified counter-terrorism efforts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have been conducting frequent intelligence-based actions against militant networks.

In recent days, Pakistan has also carried out cross-border precision strikes along areas near the Afghan border. According to official statements, these strikes targeted alleged hideouts and facilitators linked to recent attacks inside the country.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that at least 26 militants were killed in these coordinated operations. He linked the actions to a series of attacks, including incidents in Bannu, North Waziristan, and Musa Dara earlier in 2026.

Rising Security Challenges and Regional Tensions

Pakistan has witnessed a noticeable rise in militant activity since 2021, particularly in its western provinces. Security officials attribute this surge to evolving regional dynamics following political changes in Afghanistan.

Border tensions have also remained a recurring issue. In October 2025, clashes were reported along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border after militant groups allegedly launched attacks on Pakistani border posts.

Despite multiple diplomatic engagements, officials say progress in addressing cross-border militancy has been limited.

Ongoing Situation

Security forces continue intelligence-based operations across vulnerable regions, aiming to dismantle militant networks and prevent further attacks. Authorities maintain that such operations will continue as part of long-term counter-terrorism strategy in the country.
