Pakistan has made its first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025, with Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presenting his credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Ambassador Khan presented his Letters of Credence during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Yerevan, according to the Pakistan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.
Khan concurrently serves as Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE and as the country’s non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
Pakistan and Armenia establish diplomatic relations
Pakistan and Armenia formally established diplomatic relations in August 2025 through the signing of a Joint Communiqué.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the development on August 31, 2025, following discussions with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan.
At the time, Dar said the two sides had reaffirmed their commitment to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several areas, including the economy, education, culture and tourism.
The appointment of Ambassador Khan marks a significant step in formalising diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Yerevan.
Armenia welcomes Pakistani envoy
During the credentials ceremony, President Khachaturyan congratulated Khan on his appointment and expressed his best wishes for a successful tenure.
The Armenian president also conveyed his readiness to support efforts aimed at further developing relations between Armenia and Pakistan and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Khan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Khachaturyan.

He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Armenia.
The two sides highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation in trade and investment, education, culture, people-to-people contacts and other areas of economic engagement.
Ambassador holds talks with Armenian officials
Earlier, Khan called on Armenia’s foreign minister, who also congratulated him on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic responsibilities.
The two sides reviewed the bilateral agenda, discussed ways to expand cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
Khan also met Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mnatsakan Safaryan and handed him a copy of his Letters of Credence.
Safaryan described the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia as an important policy decision by the leadership of both countries.
The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation through bilateral and multilateral forums.
Khan’s engagements in Yerevan underscore Islamabad and Yerevan’s stated commitment to developing their newly established diplomatic relationship and exploring new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
