Rawalpindi: The Armed Forces of Pakistan on Monday reiterated their commitment to defending national sovereignty, combating terrorism, and ensuring internal security, emphasizing their unwavering determination to neutralize threats to the country’s safety.
Significance of March 23
Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23, commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution in 1940, when the All-India Muslim League demanded a separate homeland for Muslims of British India.
In a statement marking the 86th anniversary of Pakistan Day, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted the ongoing threat of terrorism and extremism, noting that the armed forces, in coordination with law enforcement agencies and the public, remain steadfast in maintaining national security.
Commitment of the Armed Forces
The ISPR statement reaffirmed the military’s dedication to defending Pakistan’s borders, safeguarding sovereignty, and preserving internal stability against all forms of aggression and terrorism.
Extending congratulations to the nation, Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu praised the resilience and spirit of the Pakistani people.

National Progress and Global Role
The statement emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing democratic progress guided by faith, hope, and resilience, while remaining committed to strengthening state institutions and ensuring the welfare of its citizens. It also highlighted Pakistan’s responsible role in the international community, promoting peace, stability, and cooperation.
Counterterrorism Operations and Temporary Pause
The ISPR noted that Pakistani forces recently responded to unprovoked attacks by the Afghan Taliban, resulting in the elimination of over 700 Taliban and banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants and the destruction of critical Afghan infrastructure.
In view of the upcoming Eid ul Fitr festival, the government announced a temporary pause in Operation Ghazab lil-Haq from the night of March 18/19 to March 23/24, as confirmed by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. This gesture, he said, was in good faith and aligned with Islamic norms, following both Pakistan’s initiative and requests from brotherly Islamic nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey.
