Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to playing a diplomatic role in reducing tensions between the United States and Iran, saying it remains actively engaged with international partners to support peace and regional stability.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said during a weekly briefing that Pakistan believes dialogue and negotiations are the only viable path to achieving long-term peace and prosperity in the region.

He added that Pakistan’s leadership has been in continuous contact with regional and global stakeholders as part of its broader diplomatic outreach.

High-level contacts with regional countries

According to the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recently held telephone conversations with leaders of Qatar and Azerbaijan, focusing on regional security developments.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also remained in contact with his counterparts in several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, Austria, and Singapore.

Officials say these engagements are part of ongoing efforts to keep communication channels open between key regional and global players.

China expresses support for Pakistan’s role

The spokesperson confirmed that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed strong support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during a phone call with Ishaq Dar.

Wang Yi reportedly stressed the importance of maintaining a sustainable ceasefire and promoting dialogue between all involved parties, particularly in relation to the US-Iran conflict.

China’s backing is seen as significant, given its strategic ties with both Pakistan and Iran, as well as its broader influence in regional diplomacy.

Background: ongoing US-Iran tensions

The conflict between the United States and Iran escalated following coordinated strikes involving the US and Israel, which triggered retaliatory actions across the region.

Pakistan previously played a mediatory role that contributed to a temporary ceasefire and hosted discussions between the two sides. However, efforts to reach a permanent settlement have so far been unsuccessful.

Despite setbacks, Pakistan says it continues to forward communications between Tehran and Washington and remains hopeful for progress in the peace process.

Clarification on reports and regional ties

The Foreign Office rejected recent reports suggesting unusual activity involving an Iranian aircraft in Pakistan, calling such claims “misleading and sensationalised.” It clarified that the aircraft’s arrival was related to diplomatic and administrative matters during the ceasefire period.

On Pakistan’s defence relations with Gulf countries, the spokesperson emphasized that such ties are based on long-term institutional frameworks and are not influenced by isolated events or regional developments.

UAE deportation reports termed exaggerated

Addressing media reports about deportations from the United Arab Emirates, the Foreign Office described the figures as exaggerated. It said the situation should be viewed in the broader context of the large Pakistani expatriate community in the UAE.

The Interior Ministry further clarified that deportations, if any, are routine administrative actions based on local laws, including cases involving visa overstays or documentation issues, and are not directed at any specific nationality or group.

Pakistan’s diplomatic positioning

Overall, Pakistan continues to position itself as a facilitator of dialogue in regional conflicts, particularly between the US and Iran. Officials maintain that sustained engagement and diplomatic communication remain essential for preventing further escalation in an already volatile region.
