Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Beijing for a series of high-level meetings with Chinese leadership, aiming to deepen economic cooperation, expand industrial partnerships, and advance key projects under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Arrival and Official Reception in Beijing
The Prime Minister reached Beijing on Sunday after beginning his official visit in Hangzhou, where he attended business and investment-related events. Upon arrival in the Chinese capital, he was received by Chinese Minister for Environment and Ecology Huang Runqiu.
According to official statements, the visit includes important engagements with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation under the next phase of CPEC.
Focus on Economic and Industrial Cooperation
During the visit, discussions are expected to cover multiple sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, and industrial development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited Chinese companies to relocate certain industries to Pakistan under a “win-win” partnership model. He argued that as China moves toward high-end industrialisation, labour-intensive sectors could be shifted to Pakistan, where production costs remain lower.
He suggested that such cooperation could include textiles, leather goods, and other manufacturing sectors, with joint ventures between Chinese investors and Pakistani entrepreneurs.
Pakistan–China Business Engagements in Hangzhou
Before arriving in Beijing, the Prime Minister participated in the Pakistan–China Business-to-Business Investment Conference in Hangzhou. The event focused on sectors such as renewable energy, battery storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, solar technologies, and pharmaceuticals.
He also held meetings with major Chinese companies, including firms involved in advanced batteries and energy storage solutions, to explore opportunities for collaboration in Pakistan’s energy transition.
Additionally, he visited the headquarters of Alibaba, where he met company executives and discussed potential digital economy cooperation.

Agricultural and Industrial Expansion Plans
In his address at the investment conference, the Prime Minister highlighted agriculture as a key sector for future cooperation. He noted that Pakistan has already sent trainees to China for agricultural development programs and aims to expand production and exports through improved collaboration.
He also pointed out that China imports a large volume of agricultural products globally, suggesting that Pakistan could increase its share significantly through joint production and improved quality standards.
Economic Vision and Future Outlook
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and China are working to convert existing memorandums of understanding into formal agreements. He expressed satisfaction that a portion of these agreements has already materialized into investment commitments worth billions of dollars.
He further stated that special economic zones in Pakistan would offer streamlined business processes, improved infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies, including long-term land leases for Chinese investors.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s continued effort to strengthen economic ties with China and attract foreign investment to support industrial growth. With high-level meetings scheduled in Beijing, both sides are expected to explore new avenues of cooperation under the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
