PTI Not Seeking Political Talks, Wants Deal with Establishment: Rana Sanaullah

The government claims PTI aims to bypass political dialogue and return to the 2018-style setup through backchannel talks with the establishment.

Islamabad: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has revealed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not made any formal offer for direct negotiations with the government. Instead, he claims, the party is actively trying to reach out to the establishment, aiming to secure a political comeback similar to what allegedly happened in 2018.

Speaking on Geo News’ morning show “Geo Pakistan”, Rana Sanaullah stated that PTI’s founder desires legal relief through the courts, and has explicitly asked that any negotiations not focus on securing his release through political means.

He further asserted that PTI is not interested in national political reconciliation, and accused the party of promoting unrest and instability in the country. Citing examples such as statements by PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur, he claimed the party’s agenda is to create chaos rather than contribute to national stability.

Sanaullah also alleged that PTI members had previously written letters to the IMF urging them to withhold financial support for Pakistan—actions he described as harmful to the nation. He warned that if such moves are repeated, the law will take its own course.

Highlighting PTI’s intent, he said the party is seeking the same support from the establishment that they allegedly received in 2018, referencing the controversial RTS (Results Transmission System) collapse that allegedly helped PTI come to power.

In contrast, Rana Sanaullah emphasized that the government remains open to dialogue on all national issues, but only if PTI is genuinely willing to engage in political talks. “The government wants to rebuild the economy and elevate Pakistan as a developed nation,” he said, “and for that, national consensus is essential.”

During the same program, PTI leader Malik Adeel Iqbal commented that preparations are ongoing for a major movement by August 5. However, he maintained that PTI remains open to negotiations within the framework of rule of law.

It’s worth noting that PTI founder Imran Khan is currently facing multiple legal cases and his party is under intense political pressure. Rana Sanaullah’s statements have reignited speculation: is PTI genuinely pursuing a behind-the-scenes deal with the establishment? Or is it merely a pressure tactic in the ongoing power struggle?
