A deadly explosion near a railway track in Quetta has claimed multiple lives and left several others injured, prompting emergency measures across the city’s hospitals. Authorities say the attack targeted civilians and is being investigated as a terrorist incident.

Blast Near Chaman Phatak Causes Heavy Casualties

According to the Balochistan government spokesperson, at least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, were killed in the explosion that occurred near the railway track close to Chaman Phatak in Quetta.

Several women and children were also among the injured and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Officials described the incident as a deliberate attack on civilians.

Security forces quickly cordoned off the area after the blast, while investigation teams began collecting evidence from the site.

Emergency Declared in Hospitals

Following the incident, authorities declared an emergency in government hospitals across Quetta. Doctors and medical staff were called in urgently to manage the influx of injured individuals.

Health facilities were placed on high alert to ensure timely treatment of all victims, particularly those in critical condition.

Train Service Affected After Explosion

Railway officials confirmed that the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express was stopped at Quetta Railway Station as a precaution after the blast.

Reports also indicated that the explosion caused damage to railway infrastructure, including the derailment of an engine and several coaches. A detailed assessment of the damage is currently underway.

Government and Security Response

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated that “terrorists targeted unarmed civilians,” adding that such attacks reflect desperation by militant elements.

Security institutions have been placed on high alert, and authorities have urged citizens to avoid gathering near the blast site to allow rescue operations to continue without obstruction.

National Leadership Condemns Attack

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “heinous act of terrorism.”

The Prime Minister said such attacks would not weaken Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and expressed solidarity with the families of the victims. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The President stated that hostile elements were attempting to undermine Pakistan’s efforts toward peace and development, adding that the country remains committed to defeating terrorism in all its forms.

Railway Ministry Reaction

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi also condemned the blast and claimed that elements based in neighboring countries were involved in sponsoring terrorism. He directed officials to submit an immediate report and review security arrangements for railway operations.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the nature and network behind the attack. The incident has once again raised concerns over security in Balochistan, where militant violence has repeatedly targeted both civilians and security personnel.
