No Truth to Nawaz Sharif’s Jail or Bani Gala Rumors: Rana Sanaullah

PM's aide says Nawaz is a senior politician who believes in political dialogue, not behind-the-scenes deals or humiliation.

Islamabad – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has categorically denied rumors suggesting that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif might be sent to Adiala Jail or visit Bani Gala for political compromises. He called such discussions “inappropriate and baseless,” stressing that Nawaz Sharif is a senior statesman who has always advocated for political dialogue and reconciliation.

Speaking on Dunya News’ program “Tonight with Samar Abbas”, Rana Sanaullah clarified that Nawaz Sharif’s stature does not align with narratives of submission or political bargaining. He recalled Nawaz Sharif’s address at Minar-e-Pakistan, where he openly called for national dialogue and political stability. According to Sanaullah, the foundation of Nawaz Sharif’s political narrative is built on reconciliation, not confrontation.

He further stated that the current government, especially Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, extended dialogue invitations to the opposition three times, and each time, with Nawaz Sharif’s approval.

Referring to the past, Rana Sanaullah criticized the PTI-led government for not allowing peaceful protests by the PML-N, and said it’s a delusion if PTI now believes it can launch any significant movement. He attributed PTI’s current political difficulties to decisions like the May 9 events, dissolving assemblies, and other missteps.

Rana Sanaullah emphasized that the opposition’s current approach is likely to create more challenges for them. Regarding the reference sent by the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, he said it was sent in accordance with the law, and the opposition should address it formally.

He also dismissed any speculation regarding the 27th Constitutional Amendment, stating that no discussions are taking place on the subject, and if the Prime Minister had plans for an extraordinary step, he would surely consult the party.

The statement comes amid ongoing speculation since Nawaz Sharif’s return, with questions over whether he would engage in political compromises or behind-the-scenes meetings with key figures. However, this statement from Rana Sanaullah puts those rumors to rest and clarifies PML-N’s stance: the party remains committed to dignified political dialogue, not surrender.
