Indian Test captain Shubman Gill stunned cricket fans with a brilliant double century against England in the second Test of the five-match series, breaking several long-standing records.
On the second day of the match held in Birmingham, the 25-year-old captain scored a magnificent 269 runs, marking his first-ever double century in Test cricket.
With this innings, Gill surpassed Virat Kohli’s 254-run record (2019), becoming the Indian Test captain with the highest individual score in Test history.
He also became the first Indian captain to score a double century in England, breaking a 35-year-old record held by Mohammad Azharuddin, who had scored 179 runs in Manchester in 1990.
Furthermore, Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s 221-run record set at The Oval in 1979, now holding the record for the highest Test score by an Indian batter in England.
India posted a commanding 587 runs in their first innings. At the end of day two, England had reached 77/3, trailing significantly.
It’s worth noting that England currently leads the series 1–0 in this five-match Test battle.
