KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday imposed a complete ban on the issuance of new arms licences across the province with immediate effect.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, no licensing authority will be permitted to issue a new arms licence under the directive.
“No licensing authority will be allowed to issue a new arms licence,” the spokesperson said.
The ban will remain in force until further orders, the statement added.
New arms dealership licences also banned
The provincial government has also suspended the issuance of new licences for arms dealerships.
All relevant licensing authorities have been directed to strictly implement the decision and ensure compliance with the government’s instructions.
The move applies across Sindh and will remain effective until the provincial government issues further directions.

Exceptions subject to prior approval
The spokesperson clarified that arms licences may still be issued in exceptional or special cases, but only after obtaining prior approval from the authorised authority.
Such approvals will require permission from either the Sindh home minister or the chief minister, in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
The spokesperson said all relevant licensing officials had been instructed to comply strictly with the directive and ensure that no new arms or arms dealership licences are issued without the required approval.
