BERLIN: A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet assigned to Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany crashed on Tuesday after a training exercise, with the pilot safely ejecting from the aircraft, the US military said.
The pilot was receiving medical treatment following the crash, while emergency response personnel were dispatched to the scene.
The US military said the cause of the incident was under investigation.
Four F-16s involved in training exercise
Germany’s air traffic control authority said four F-16 fighter jets had been participating in a training exercise before the crash.
According to the authority, two of the aircraft remained in the training area while the other two began returning to Spangdahlem Air Base.

“One of these two jets is believed to have crashed while on approach,” the authority said.
The remaining F-16s involved in the exercise landed safely at Ramstein Air Base, also in western Germany.
Emergency services remained at the crash site as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
