U.S.-Pakistan Trade Deal a Positive Step for Economy: Bilal Azhar Kayani

Islamabad – Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani, has welcomed the recently signed U.S.-Pakistan trade agreement, calling it a promising development for the national economy and a milestone in strengthening bilateral relations.

In an official statement, Kayani said the agreement will directly benefit Pakistan’s exports and foreign investment, especially from the United States — Pakistan’s largest export destination.

The trade deal was finalized following high-level meetings in Washington between Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and the U.S. Trade Representative.

Tariff Reductions and Export Growth

Kayani revealed that under the agreement, there will be significant reductions in tariffs on Pakistani goods entering the U.S., giving Pakistan greater access to American markets.

“This will positively impact our exports and economy,” he stated.

“Last fiscal year, Pakistan’s total exports stood at $32 billion, out of which $6 billion went to the U.S.”

He emphasized that this trade deal will likely lead to increased U.S. investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and development projects.

Diplomatic Achievement and Strategic Value

The Minister described the agreement as a major diplomatic success for the Government of Pakistan, contributing to economic stability and enhancing international investor confidence.

He added that the deal reflects an expanding strategic partnership between Pakistan and the United States. Kayani noted that the 25% tariff imposed on India by the U.S. could indirectly benefit Pakistan by improving its relative competitiveness in the region.

Link to Recent Diplomatic Engagements

Kayani highlighted the role of Pakistan’s recent high-level diplomatic engagements in achieving the deal. These included:

  • Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State

  • Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump

“These efforts helped shape a strong and effective diplomatic presence,” Kayani said, adding that Pakistan’s economic diplomacy will continue to move forward with the same momentum.

Joint Cooperation in Key Sectors

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had announced the trade deal via a post on Truth Social, confirming that both countries will collaborate not only on trade but also in oil, energy, information technology, and cryptocurrency sectors.

“This agreement is more than just trade—it’s a broader economic and strategic framework,” Kayani concluded.
