Washington Confirms New Military Support
The United States has approved the sale of advanced air defense systems worth $179 million to Ukraine. The move is designed to strengthen Kyiv’s defenses against continuing Russian missile and drone attacks.
The US State Department confirmed the decision on Friday, emphasizing Washington’s commitment to supporting Ukraine as the conflict with Russia enters another year without signs of de-escalation.
Patriot Missile Systems for Ukraine
According to officials, the package includes the Patriot air defense system, one of the most sophisticated platforms in Washington’s arsenal. The Patriot system is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft at long range.
For Ukraine, which has faced relentless aerial bombardments since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, the delivery of such systems is seen as a critical upgrade to its defense network.
The announcement follows weeks of intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, targeting power grids, energy plants, and supply routes.
