Dubai: The government of Dubai has unveiled an ambitious new metro project known as the “Golden Line,” with an estimated cost of 34 billion dirhams (approximately $9.25 billion). The project is scheduled for completion by September 9, 2032, marking another significant step in the emirate’s long-term urban development strategy.

Project Overview and Route Details

According to details shared by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Golden Line will run approximately 40 metres underground. The new metro line is designed to connect 15 key areas across the emirate, improving accessibility and easing travel for residents and visitors alike.

This underground alignment reflects Dubai’s focus on advanced engineering solutions to minimise surface disruption while maximizing efficiency in densely populated zones.

Capacity and Urban Impact

Authorities estimate that the Golden Line will serve around 1.5 million people, making it a critical addition to the city’s public transport system. The project is also expected to support 55 major real estate developments that are currently under construction.

As Dubai continues to experience rapid population growth and urban expansion, infrastructure projects like this are seen as essential for maintaining mobility and reducing traffic congestion. Improved connectivity is also likely to enhance property values and encourage further investment in key districts.

Expansion of the Metro Network

The introduction of the Golden Line will increase the total length of the Dubai Metro network by approximately 35%. This expansion aligns with the emirate’s broader vision to strengthen its public transportation system and reduce reliance on private vehicles.

Dubai has consistently invested in modern transport solutions, and the metro system has become a central component of daily commuting. With this new addition, authorities aim to further improve efficiency, sustainability, and overall commuter experience.

Long-Term Vision and Strategic Importance

The Golden Line is part of a wider strategy to future-proof Dubai’s infrastructure in line with its economic and demographic ambitions. Large-scale projects like this not only address current transportation needs but also anticipate future demand as the city continues to grow.

By targeting completion in 2032, the project underscores Dubai’s commitment to long-term planning and sustainable urban development. As work progresses, the Golden Line is expected to play a key role in shaping the next phase of the city’s evolution.
