Pakistan’s military leadership has reaffirmed its readiness to respond forcefully to any future aggression as the country marked the first anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq,” the military confrontation with India that took place in May last year.

The anniversary was observed through official ceremonies, statements by senior military officials, and renewed emphasis on national unity, defence preparedness, and regional stability.

Background of the Conflict

According to Pakistani officials, the conflict began on May 6-7, 2025, after India blamed Pakistan for an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir and launched military strikes. Islamabad rejected the allegations and responded militarily.

The confrontation lasted for more than 80 hours before international diplomatic efforts, including intervention by the United States, helped bring hostilities to a halt on May 10.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that its response was defensive, measured, and directed only at military targets.

ISPR Says Armed Forces Ready for Future Threats

In a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations said the anniversary represents a defining moment in Pakistan’s military history.

The statement particularly praised the role of the Pakistan Air Force, saying its operations strengthened national confidence and demonstrated the country’s growing technological and operational capabilities.

The ISPR added that Pakistan’s armed forces continue to modernise through advanced systems, multi-domain warfare capabilities, and new defence technologies.

It further warned that any future hostile action against Pakistan would receive an “even greater” response than what was witnessed during Marka-e-Haq.

Air Chief Highlights PAF Operations

During a ceremony held at Air Headquarters in Islamabad, Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu congratulated Pakistan Air Force personnel on what he described as a successful defence operation.

He said the PAF had delivered a “full and befitting response” to Indian aggression and claimed that Pakistan’s air and cyber capabilities had inflicted major setbacks on the opposing side.

The air chief also praised the role of military leadership, including Syed Asim Munir, stating that strategic coordination played an important role during the conflict.

Ishaq Dar Calls Anniversary a Moment to ‘Shape the Future’

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the anniversary was not only about remembering the past but also about “shaping the future.”

In his statement, Dar described Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos as a lawful act of self-defence carried out under the framework of the UN Charter.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach during the conflict, saying Islamabad worked to present its position responsibly at regional and international forums.

Dar stressed that Pakistan remains committed to peace and dialogue but would never compromise on its sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Focus on Peace and Regional Stability

Despite the strong military messaging, official statements repeatedly emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability.

The ISPR described Pakistan as a “peace-loving country” with a responsible strategic culture, while government officials said diplomacy remains the preferred path for resolving disputes.

At the same time, leaders reiterated that national unity and military preparedness remain essential in an evolving regional security environment.

The first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq has been used by Pakistan’s military and political leadership to project a message of strength, preparedness, and national unity. While officials continue to call for peace and diplomacy in South Asia, they have also made clear that any future confrontation would be met with a stronger and more technologically advanced response.
