On the Day of Arafat, millions of Muslim pilgrims gathered in the plains of Arafat in Saudi Arabia to perform the most significant ritual of Hajj. The atmosphere was filled with devotion, reflection, and a strong sense of global unity as worshippers from different countries stood together in prayer.
At Namirah Mosque in Makkah, the Hajj sermon (Khutbah) was delivered by Sheikh Dr Ali Al Hudaify, the Imam of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Following the sermon, pilgrims performed combined and shortened Zuhr and Asr prayers as part of the prescribed Hajj rites.
Sermon Emphasizes Faith, Patience, and Moral Conduct
In his address, Sheikh Al Hudaify urged Muslims to adopt patience during hardships and strengthen their connection with Allah through sincere worship and obedience.
He reminded the pilgrims that true success in the Hereafter comes through monotheism (Tawheed) and devotion to Allah alone. He stressed the importance of avoiding actions that contradict Islamic teachings, including falsehood, backbiting, and religious innovations.
According to the sermon, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the final messenger, and believers were encouraged to uphold truthfulness and righteousness in all aspects of life.
Message of Unity and Discipline Among Muslims
A central theme of the sermon was the unity of the Muslim Ummah. The Imam highlighted that Hajj represents harmony, cooperation, and mutual understanding among Muslims of all backgrounds, languages, and nationalities.
He also urged pilgrims to maintain discipline during the pilgrimage and strictly follow the guidance of authorities managing the Hajj arrangements. Avoiding disputes, political slogans, and disorder was emphasized as essential for ensuring safety and smooth performance of rituals.
“Follow the instructions of the organising authorities to avoid chaos and safeguard lives,” he advised during the sermon.
Prayers for Global Peace and Acceptance of Hajj
The sermon concluded with special prayers asking Allah to forgive the sins of pilgrims, accept their worship, and bless them with safe return to their homes. Supplications were also made for the betterment of the global Muslim community.
“O Allah, accept from the pilgrims their supplications and rituals, make their affairs easy for them, forgive their sins, and return them safely,” the Imam prayed.
After completing their stay in Arafat, pilgrims are set to proceed to Mina for the next stage of Hajj rituals.
Namirah Mosque, where the sermon was delivered, holds deep historical significance in Islam. It is associated with the location of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Farewell Sermon and remains one of the most important sites in the holy journey of Hajj.
