LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underwent a major surgical procedure at Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore and has since been shifted home in stable condition, senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed on Thursday.
According to the statement shared on social media platform X, the chief minister’s surgery was described as “major,” after which doctors discharged her from the hospital for recovery at home.
CM remained engaged in official duties
Despite undergoing surgery, Maryam Nawaz reportedly remained involved in provincial administrative matters. The minister said she continued to monitor key governance issues, including security arrangements and cleanliness operations across Punjab, even on Eid day.
Officials stated that the chief minister supervised these activities remotely from the hospital during her treatment, reflecting what they described as her continued engagement with day-to-day governance.
Health and recovery updates
Provincial ministers and cabinet members extended prayers and well-wishes for her speedy recovery. Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also expressed hope for her improved health.
While details of the surgery have not been officially disclosed, this is not the first time the chief minister has undergone a medical procedure. In January 2023, she had throat surgery in Geneva, where doctors operated on her throat glands during a several-hour-long procedure.
Official silence on medical specifics
Authorities have not provided further medical details regarding the recent operation, and no official hospital statement has been released so far. However, government representatives have assured that she is recovering well and continuing to rest under medical advice.
The Punjab government has not indicated any change in administrative functioning, suggesting that routine governance activities are continuing under the existing provincial setup while the chief minister recuperates.
