Addressing the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, Azam Nazeer Tarar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening women’s rights, leadership, and equal opportunities across society.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, with Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar describing it as a national priority rooted in the country’s Constitution, inspired by Islamic values, and essential for sustainable development.
Speaking at the 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad, Tarar said Pakistan would use its newly assumed chairmanship to help translate shared commitments into practical initiatives that improve the lives of women across OIC member states.
Pakistan Assumes Chairmanship of OIC Women’s Conference
Pakistan officially assumed the chairmanship of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, a role that, according to the law minister, carries the responsibility of promoting meaningful cooperation among member countries.
Tarar said Pakistan would work to encourage the exchange of experiences, strengthen collaboration, and support collective efforts aimed at advancing women’s empowerment throughout the Islamic world.
He emphasized that the chairmanship provides an opportunity to foster practical partnerships and promote policies that contribute to the social and economic advancement of women.
Government Expanding Legal and Policy Framework
The law minister said Pakistan is continuing to strengthen its legal, policy, and institutional framework to improve women’s rights and expand opportunities in various sectors.
According to Tarar, the government’s priorities include:
- Expanding women’s leadership in public and private institutions.
- Promoting financial inclusion and entrepreneurship.
- Reducing the digital divide through greater access to technology.
- Improving women’s access to justice.
- Creating safer, more inclusive, and equitable workplaces.
He said these initiatives are intended to ensure that women can participate fully in Pakistan’s economic, political, and social development.

Call for Inclusive Development
Tarar stressed that collective efforts should ensure no woman or girl is left behind because of conflict, poverty, discrimination, or inequality.
He said empowering women is not only a matter of protecting rights but also an important step toward achieving sustainable development and building stronger communities.
The minister added that Pakistan remains committed to working with fellow OIC countries to share experiences and develop practical solutions that improve opportunities for women and girls across the Muslim world.
OIC Calls for Collective Action
Also addressing the conference, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs Tarig Ali Bakheet urged member states to take concrete and coordinated measures to improve the lives of women and girls.
He emphasized the importance of translating policy commitments into practical actions that support education, economic participation, healthcare, and social protection for women across OIC member countries.
Strengthening Regional Cooperation
The conference provides a platform for OIC member states to discuss common challenges affecting women and to exchange best practices on issues such as education, employment, leadership, legal protection, and social inclusion.
Pakistan’s assumption of the conference chairmanship is expected to facilitate closer cooperation among member countries as they work toward policies aimed at promoting women’s rights and expanding opportunities while addressing shared social and economic challenges.
