WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s public approval rating has dropped to one of its lowest levels since returning to office in 2025, according to a new poll conducted by The Economist in partnership with YouGov.
The survey, conducted between July 10 and July 13, included 1,616 respondents and carries a margin of error of ±3.3 percentage points.
According to the findings, 59% of respondents said they disapprove of Trump’s performance as president, while only 37% said they approve of the way he is handling the job.
The results suggest that a majority of Americans surveyed remain dissatisfied with the administration’s overall direction.
Majority Believe America’s Global Standing Has Declined
The poll also examined public opinion on the United States’ role in international affairs.
According to the survey, 54% of respondents believe that America’s position on the global stage has declined since the beginning of Trump’s second term in office.
The findings reflect growing concern among many respondents about the country’s international standing and foreign policy direction.
Iran Policy Faces Public Criticism
In addition to evaluating Trump’s overall job performance, the poll asked respondents about the administration’s approach toward Iran.
A majority of those surveyed said they disapprove of Trump’s handling of the conflict with Iran, indicating that military and foreign policy decisions continue to divide public opinion.
The survey also found that 79% of respondents believe that US military operations involving Iran are likely to continue for an extended period, reflecting expectations that tensions in the Middle East may persist.

Poll Conducted Amid Regional Tensions
The latest survey was released on Monday, July 13, as renewed fighting between the United States and Iran has heightened tensions across the Middle East.
Against this backdrop, respondents were asked to evaluate the administration’s handling of the situation.
According to the results, 59% of participants said they either strongly or somewhat disapprove of the president’s actions. The report noted that this figure has remained largely unchanged since the Iran conflict intensified, although disapproval had reached 64% at the end of May.
Poll Reflects Public Opinion at Time of Survey
Opinion polls provide a snapshot of public sentiment during the period in which they are conducted and can vary depending on the polling organisation, methodology and sample.
The latest Economist/YouGov survey suggests that President Trump’s approval ratings remain under pressure as his administration continues to face scrutiny over both domestic governance and foreign policy, particularly in relation to developments in the Middle East.
While the poll indicates widespread dissatisfaction among respondents, future surveys will determine whether public opinion shifts as political and international events continue to unfold.
