Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned the continued threats issued by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, describing such actions as a serious risk to regional stability and international trade.
In a statement, the Foreign Office (FO) said the threats undermine freedom of navigation, challenge the rules-based maritime order, and jeopardise the uninterrupted flow of global commerce.
FO Warns Against Threats to Commercial Shipping
The Foreign Office said threats targeting commercial vessels and trade linked to Saudi Arabia are unacceptable and contrary to established principles of international law.
It also expressed concern over reports that ships engaged in lawful commercial trade with the Kingdom had been threatened amid escalating regional tensions.
The statement follows recent warnings by the Houthis declaring a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia and threatening to target commercial shipping operating in the region.
Pakistan Reaffirms Right to Protect Maritime Interests
The Foreign Office stressed that any hostile action against Pakistani-flagged vessels or the country’s maritime interests would be regarded as a serious threat to Pakistan’s national security and sovereignty.
It said Pakistan reserves the right, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, to take all necessary measures—including the lawful use of force in self-defence—to safeguard its maritime assets and national interests.

Concern Over Regional Escalation
Pakistan also voiced deep concern over what it described as attempts to draw Saudi Arabia into the wider Middle East conflict.
The Foreign Office reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity.
The statement comes as tensions in the region continue to rise following renewed military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and their regional allies.
Calls for Diplomacy and Safe Maritime Trade
Reiterating its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, Pakistan called on all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy.
The Foreign Office urged all sides to respect international law and take steps to ensure the safety and security of international maritime shipping, warning that continued instability in key sea routes could have significant consequences for regional and global trade.
Pakistan said maintaining freedom of navigation and protecting commercial shipping remain essential for international economic stability and regional peace.
