MIAMI: Former Miami Heat guard Josh Richardson has announced his retirement from professional basketball at the age of 32, bringing an end to a 10-year NBA career.
Richardson shared the news in an emotional post on Instagram, thanking the game, his teammates, coaches and fans for their support throughout his career.
Richardson bids farewell to basketball
The veteran guard, who spent six of his 10 NBA seasons with the Miami Heat across two stints, said he was stepping away from the game with no regrets.
“I always gave my best, that’s why I can say this with no regret.”
He added:
“I am grateful to have been able to love this game and it love me back as much as it did. It wasn’t set up for me at any point in my career.”
Richardson concluded his message by thanking everyone who had been part of his journey.
“All my fans, coaches and teammates, I hope I left a good impression and a positive view of me.”
Dwyane Wade’s tribute
Shortly after Richardson’s announcement, NBA legend Dwyane Wade paid tribute in the comments section of the post.
“The coolest. I loved going into the trenches with you, young fella.”
Wade’s heartfelt message quickly drew attention from basketball fans and fellow players.

A decade-long NBA career
Richardson was selected in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft after playing college basketball at Tennessee.
During his NBA career, he appeared in 554 regular-season games, representing:

- Philadelphia 76ers (2019–20)
- Dallas Mavericks (2020–21)
- Boston Celtics (2021–22)
- San Antonio Spurs (2021–23)
- New Orleans Pelicans (2022–23)
He retires with career averages of:
- 11.5 points per game
- 3.0 rebounds per game
- 2.6 assists per game
