The Sindh Education Department has withdrawn its earlier decision to introduce a six-day school week, restoring Saturday as a weekly holiday for all public and private educational institutions across the province.
The revised decision was taken after receiving approval from the Chief Secretary of Sindh, bringing schools back to a five-day working week.
Schools to Operate Monday Through Friday
According to the Education Department, all educational institutions under its administrative control will now conduct classes from Monday to Friday, with Saturday once again observed as a weekly holiday.
The decision applies to both government and private schools across Sindh.
Officials said the revised schedule aims to maintain a balanced academic calendar while responding to concerns raised over the earlier six-day school week.
Teaching Hours Extended by One Hour
To ensure that academic activities continue without affecting syllabus completion, the department has decided to increase daily teaching hours by one hour.
Education officials said the additional classroom time will compensate for the reduction in the number of school days, allowing institutions to complete the prescribed curriculum within the academic year.
Further details regarding revised school timings are expected to be communicated to educational institutions by the relevant authorities.

Last month, the Sindh government had announced that all public and private schools would operate six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, beginning August 1, 2026.
An official notification issued at the time stated that the revised schedule would remain in effect until further orders.
The move had attracted widespread discussion among parents, teachers, and education stakeholders after schools reopened following the annual summer vacation.
Schools Recently Reopened After Summer Break
Educational institutions across Sindh resumed classes after a two-month summer vacation, which ran from June 1 to July 31.
With the latest decision, students and teachers will now follow a five-day school week, while spending an additional hour in classrooms each working day to maintain academic continuity.
The Sindh Education Department said the revised arrangement will be implemented across the province in all institutions under its jurisdiction, ensuring that teaching schedules remain on track without requiring classes on Saturdays.
