Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has rejected rumours that he is considering leaving international cricket, reaffirming that representing Pakistan remains his top priority and one of the greatest honours of his career.
Khushdil Shah Dismisses Retirement Rumours
Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has strongly denied reports suggesting that he was considering quitting Pakistan cricket following his prolonged absence from the national side.
The 31-year-old addressed the speculation on Friday through his Instagram Stories, describing the reports as “fake” and “completely untrue.”
Khushdil said representing Pakistan has always been his highest priority and a matter of great pride for him. He also urged supporters not to believe what he described as baseless rumours circulating on social media.
How the Rumours Started
The speculation emerged after a two-month-old interview resurfaced online.
In the interview, Pakistan all-rounder Abbas Afridi claimed that Khushdil had told him he had approximately four months left to earn another call-up to the national team. According to the claim, Khushdil had suggested that if he did not receive an opportunity during that period, he might have to leave Pakistan cricket.
The comments quickly spread across social media, with some users interpreting them as an indication that Khushdil was considering ending his international career.
However, Khushdil subsequently stepped forward to clarify that he had no such plans.
‘Representing Pakistan Has Always Been My Top Priority’
In his statement, Khushdil rejected the reports and reaffirmed his commitment to the national team.
“There’s fake news going around claiming I’m leaving Pakistan cricket and it’s completely untrue.”
He further described Pakistan as his home and said representing the country had always been his “top priority and greatest honour.”
The all-rounder also appealed to his fans not to give credibility to unverified reports.
“Please don’t believe these baseless rumours. My commitment to Pakistan cricket has never changed and never will.”
His comments effectively put to rest speculation that he was planning to walk away from international cricket.
Khushdil’s International Career
Khushdil made his international debut for Pakistan in November 2019.
Since then, he has represented the national side in 15 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 38 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
However, his appearances for Pakistan have become limited in recent times. His most recent international appearance came during the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup last year.
He played only one match in that tournament, featuring in Pakistan’s group-stage encounter against the United Arab Emirates, where he scored four runs.
He was subsequently left out of Pakistan’s playing XI for the remainder of the competition and later dropped from the squad altogether.
National Team Return Remains the Goal
Khushdil’s latest statement makes clear that his absence from the national side has not changed his desire to represent Pakistan.
For now, the all-rounder will have to continue performing at domestic and franchise level to put himself back into contention for selection.
His clarification also underlines the growing impact of social media on professional sports, where old interviews and comments can quickly resurface and generate speculation about players’ careers.
For Khushdil, however, the message is clear: he has no intention of quitting Pakistan cricket and remains committed to earning another opportunity to wear the national colours.
