ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reiterated its call for the full implementation of the June 18 Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), telling the United States that the agreement remains the “only way forward” for achieving regional peace and stability.
The message was conveyed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A Baker on Friday, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to escalate.
The meeting came as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington was preparing new measures aimed at imposing unprecedented economic pressure on Iran.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar welcomed the positive trajectory in Pakistan-US relations and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting peace.
“He stressed that the implementation of the Islamabad MoU of 18 June in letter and spirit is the only way forward,” the Foreign Office said.
Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security while emphasising that the country would continue to safeguard its national interests.
The discussions covered Pakistan-US bilateral cooperation as well as recent regional developments. Baker appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and congratulated Dar on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Dar delivers same message to UK
Following his meeting with the US envoy, Dar also met UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott.
The two sides discussed recent regional and international developments, with Dar again stressing that the Islamabad MoU should be implemented by all parties in letter and spirit.
The foreign minister reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to resolve outstanding issues.
Dar also welcomed the positive momentum in Pakistan-UK relations and referred to his recent meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila.
The two officials discussed areas of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

China offers condolences over mountaineer’s death
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong also called on Dar.
The foreign minister conveyed condolences over the death of a Chinese mountaineer following an avalanche incident at Broad Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan and assured the ambassador of Pakistan’s full cooperation in facilitating the return of the deceased’s remains.
Ambassador Jiang appreciated Pakistan’s prompt assistance and support following the incident.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments and other matters of mutual interest. The Chinese envoy conveyed warm Independence Day greetings to Pakistan’s leadership and people and reaffirmed the longstanding ties between the two countries.
Egypt also reaffirms close ties
Earlier, Dar spoke by telephone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who conveyed Independence Day greetings to Pakistan’s leadership, government and people.
The two ministers reaffirmed the close and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Egypt and expressed a desire to further expand cooperation through high-level exchanges and institutional engagement.
They also discussed regional and international developments and agreed to remain in close contact.
