LONDON: President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto are reportedly in Vienna. A party source says they are discussing Bilawal’s possible engagement and marriage.
The source spoke to Geo News on condition of anonymity. They claimed Zardari and Bilawal had met the prospective bride’s family three times.
The meetings reportedly took place after their arrival in Austria three days ago. However, neither the family nor the PPP has formally confirmed the marriage reports.
Possible Marriage Linked to Austrian Family
According to the PPP source, Bilawal and the prospective bride have known each other for years. They reportedly share several mutual friends.
The source said the wedding could potentially take place in Vienna later this year. However, no specific date has been announced publicly.
Some reports have linked the prospective bride to the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. The family was associated with Austria’s former imperial ruling dynasty.
Some accounts have further described the woman as a descendant of Karl I. He was Austria’s last reigning emperor.
These claims have not been formally confirmed by Bilawal or his family. The reported family connection therefore remains part of the ongoing speculation.
Zardari’s Private Foreign Visit
The Presidency confirmed on August 27 that President Zardari had travelled abroad. It described the trip as a private visit but gave no further details.
The reported Austria visit has attracted considerable attention in Pakistan. Earlier reports had linked Zardari’s private trip to Liechtenstein.
Bilawal Bhutto Marriage Buzz Puts Liechtenstein in Spotlight
Liechtenstein is a small landlocked country located between Switzerland and Austria. Its capital, Vaduz, has also been mentioned in reports surrounding the speculation.
The latest account, however, places Zardari and Bilawal in Vienna. The Austrian capital is the reported location for the alleged engagement discussions.
Family Expected to Travel to Britain
The PPP source said Zardari and Bilawal are expected to travel to Britain. They reportedly plan to spend around 10 days in London and elsewhere.
Members of the prospective bride’s family may also join them during the visit. Bilawal’s sisters are reportedly expected to accompany the family in London.
Bilawal is an Oxford University graduate and frequently visits Britain. His previous trips have included both private and political engagements.
Sanam Bhutto, Bilawal’s aunt, is also currently in London. She is the only surviving child of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Sanam reportedly attended a wedding in London around two weeks ago. The event was held for the son of PPP UK President Mohsin Bari.
Marriage Reports Remain Unconfirmed
The source claimed that even senior PPP figures were unaware of the discussions. According to the source, many people learned about them only around two days earlier.
Despite the reports, no formal announcement has been made. The Bhutto-Zardari family has not publicly confirmed an engagement or wedding.
Karachi Mayor and senior PPP leader Murtaza Wahab has also rejected the reports. He described circulating media and social media reports as incorrect.
The denial has added uncertainty to the growing speculation. It also highlights the lack of an official confirmation from the family.
For now, reports about Bilawal’s possible engagement remain unverified. Further clarity is expected only through an official statement from the family or PPP.
