ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s armed forces on Sunday reaffirmed their readiness to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any aggression would be met with a “swift and decisive response” as the nation observed the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with the country’s senior military leadership, paid tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Pakistan.
In a statement marking September 6, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the armed forces remained “fully prepared” to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.
The military reiterated that Pakistan remained committed to peace, stability and prosperity in the region, as well as responsible conduct and peaceful coexistence with other countries.
“However, this commitment must never be mistaken for weakness,” the ISPR said, warning that any aggression against Pakistan would receive a “swift and decisive response”.
Military leadership honours martyrs
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza and personnel of the armed forces paid tribute to the country’s martyrs.
They also expressed their deepest respect and gratitude to the Ghazis and the families of those who lost their lives serving Pakistan.
According to the ISPR, September 6 remains an “enduring symbol of national unity, courage and resolve”, recalling the nation’s collective response during the 1965 war.

“The Shuhada of Pakistan embody the highest ideals of honour, duty and sacrifice,” the military said.
The ISPR paid tribute to generations of Pakistani defenders who sacrificed their lives on battlefields, in the skies and at sea.
Families of martyrs praised for resilience
The armed forces said the sacrifices of the martyrs continued to inspire generations of Pakistanis, while their families remained symbols of courage, fortitude and resilience.
The military also saluted the country’s Ghazis for defending Pakistan’s frontiers with “valour, steadfastness and distinguished service”.
On Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the armed forces renewed their pledge of “unwavering devotion” to Pakistan and its people.
“The supreme sacrifices of our Shuhada, the spirit of our Ghazis and the fortitude of their families will forever remain a source of national strength and pride,” the ISPR said.
The armed forces vowed to continue fulfilling their responsibilities with honour, professionalism and “unflinching resolve”, while standing united with the Pakistani nation.
