KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) moved higher on Tuesday as buying activity returned to key sectors, pushing the benchmark KSE-100 Index up more than 400 points by midday.

The index gained 470.14 points, or 0.28%, to reach 165,594.55 points from the previous close of 165,124.41.

The market opened on a positive note, rising 558.25 points, or 0.34%, to 165,682.66 during early trading at 9:33am. During the session, the benchmark touched an intraday high of 166,070.47 points and a low of 165,271.67.

The upward movement reflected renewed buying interest across several major sectors, while a relatively calm domestic environment helped support investor confidence.

Buying Returns Across Key Sectors

Buying activity was concentrated in automobile assemblers, cement manufacturers, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, and oil marketing companies.

These sectors contributed to the market’s positive momentum as investors returned to selected stocks following recent fluctuations.

The gains suggest that some investors are cautiously rebuilding their positions. However, the market’s direction will continue to depend on the strength of buying activity and developments affecting the broader economic and political outlook.

Falling Oil Prices Support Market Sentiment

Developments in international oil markets also influenced investor sentiment.

Oil prices declined in Asian trading on Tuesday and were heading towards their first drop in nearly a week as traders assessed potential supply disruptions following attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Market participants were also weighing the possibility of additional diesel supplies from Russia, which could influence the global supply outlook.

Changes in international oil prices can affect Pakistan’s economic outlook by influencing import costs, inflationary pressures and the country’s external financing requirements.

The latest decline therefore provided a supportive backdrop for local equities, although its longer-term impact will depend on how global energy markets develop.

Investors Watch Market Direction

The PSX’s recovery reflects cautious optimism among investors amid improving sentiment across major sectors.

However, a single positive session does not necessarily signal a sustained market recovery. Continued buying, developments in international oil prices and changes in domestic political and economic conditions will remain important factors for investors.

Market participants will be watching whether the KSE-100 Index can maintain its gains and attract further buying interest as trading continues.
