Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned Houthi ballistic missile attacks reported on October 24 in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah and Madinah regions, including areas near Islam’s holiest sites.

In a statement posted on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as a grave violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Foreign Office (FO) also said the incidents demonstrated a blatant disregard for the sanctity of the holy sites and the safety of civilians.

Saudi Air Defences Intercept Missiles

On October 24, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence briefly issued alerts warning of potential danger in Taif, Yanbu, Makkah and Jeddah.

A Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthi group said it had destroyed two ballistic missiles fired towards Taif and Yanbu as hostilities continued between the opposing sides.

Pakistan’s statement expressed support for Saudi Arabia and commended the vigilance and effectiveness of its air defence forces in responding to the attacks.

The FO reiterated Islamabad’s unwavering solidarity with the kingdom and reaffirmed its firm commitment to the Makkah alliance.

It also pledged continued support for Saudi Arabia’s security, stability and defence against external aggression or threats, including efforts to protect the Two Holy Mosques.

Pakistan Reiterates Support for Saudi Arabia

The latest condemnation follows an earlier statement by Pakistan in response to a Houthi attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Madinah on September 29.

At the time, the FO described the attack on civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque as a grave provocation. It said the incident had caused deep concern among Muslims worldwide and stressed that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of worshippers and pilgrims must be respected under all circumstances.

Pakistan also called for an immediate and unconditional end to actions that threaten regional peace and security.

Defence Cooperation Between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia

The latest developments come amid closer defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The two countries signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in September 2025, establishing a framework for joint defence. A trilateral Makkah Joint Defence Agreement involving Turkiye was subsequently signed on August 7, according to the supplied report.

The agreement provides for collective defence cooperation, with an armed attack against one signatory state to be treated as an attack against all three.

Efforts to strengthen coordination have continued. In September, senior military commanders from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye met in Riyadh to discuss regional security, intelligence sharing, military coordination and the integration of defence capabilities.

Pakistan’s latest statement underscores its continued support for Saudi Arabia as regional security concerns persist.
