KARACHI: The ninth edition of the Sindh Literature Festival (SLF) will be held at the historic Mohatta Palace in Karachi on November 21 and 22, 2026, bringing together literature, culture, history and the diverse stories that connect communities across Sindh.
The dates and venue were announced on the festival’s official Instagram account, which invited audiences to attend the two-day event celebrating the province’s literary and cultural heritage.
The upcoming edition will continue the festival’s tradition of providing a platform for writers, poets, scholars, artists and readers to engage with Sindh’s cultural identity and explore issues shaping its social and intellectual life.
Promoting Sindh’s Literary and Cultural Heritage
Established in 2016, the Sindh Literature Festival has become a regular cultural gathering dedicated to promoting Sindhi literature, indigenous languages, music, history and the arts.
According to its official website, the festival aims to connect established and emerging writers with readers while encouraging discussion on the region’s social, cultural and intellectual development.
Previous editions have featured panel discussions, book launches, poetry recitals, theatre performances, musical programmes and conversations on topics ranging from language and education to history, politics, heritage and environmental challenges.
The festival has also provided a platform for discussions about the Indus River, the preservation of cultural identity and the role of literature in addressing contemporary issues.
Organised by the Sindh Literary Foundation, the festival lists journalist Naseer Gopang as its founder and producer.
Previous Editions Highlighted History and Environmental Issues
Over the years, the festival has explored themes reflecting Sindh’s historical legacy and contemporary concerns.
The fifth edition, held at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi in March 2022, marked the centenary of the discovery of Mohenjo-daro, highlighting the archaeological heritage of the Indus Valley Civilisation.
The sixth edition took place in March 2023, focusing on climate change and global warming under the theme “Aalam Sabh Abaad Kareen”. Its programme featured literary and cultural activities designed to encourage public engagement with environmental issues.
KLF 2026 Opens in Karachi with Focus on ‘Literature in a Fragile World’
In December 2024, the seventh edition was held at Liaquat Memorial Library in Karachi under the theme “Save Indus, Save Life”.
The eighth edition followed on November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Beach Luxury Hotel in Karachi, under the theme “Celebrate the Power of the World”.
These gatherings reflected the festival’s continuing effort to connect literary expression with Sindh’s history, cultural traditions and wider social challenges.

Mohatta Palace Adds a Historic Dimension
The selection of Mohatta Palace as the venue for the ninth edition adds historical significance to the upcoming event.
Located in Karachi’s Clifton area, the palace was built in the late 1920s for businessman Rai Bahadur Seth Shivratan Mohatta. The historic building is now a recognised monument under the Government of Sindh and operates as a museum.
With its distinctive architecture and cultural importance, Mohatta Palace provides a fitting setting for a festival centred on literature, history and artistic expression.
Hosting the event at the palace will bring together two important aspects of Karachi’s cultural landscape: its historic architectural heritage and the continuing traditions of storytelling, writing and intellectual debate.
Festival to Return in November
As preparations continue for its ninth edition, the Sindh Literature Festival remains focused on preserving literary traditions while creating opportunities for new voices and ideas.
The November 21–22 gathering is expected to offer readers, writers and culture enthusiasts an opportunity to engage with the stories, histories and creative expressions that contribute to Sindh’s cultural identity.
