The understanding was reached between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who agreed to work together to improve security monitoring systems and enhance the operational capacity of Safe City authorities in both provinces.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities in Punjab to extend institutional support to the Balochistan Safe City Authority following a request from Chief Minister Bugti.
The two provinces will also promote technical collaboration and exchange expertise through cooperation between their respective Safe City authorities.
Safe City Projects Underway in Nine Balochistan Cities
The agreement was discussed during a meeting of the Balochistan Safe City Authority, chaired by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat briefed participants on the progress of ongoing projects. He said work on Safe City schemes was currently underway in nine cities across the province.
The projects are aimed at developing modern surveillance and monitoring infrastructure to support law enforcement agencies and improve public security.
Director General of the Punjab Safe City Authority Ahsan Younas said his organisation would provide training, capacity-building support and advanced technical assistance to personnel in Balochistan.
He added that the assistance would help improve the skills of local staff and support the operationalisation and strengthening of Safe City projects across the province.

Bugti Calls Safe City Projects Essential for Public Safety
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said Safe City projects should not be viewed merely as surveillance systems. Instead, he described them as modern security infrastructure designed to protect the lives and property of citizens.
He stressed that advanced technology and effective monitoring systems were increasingly important for maintaining law and order, preventing crime and creating a safer environment for residents.
Bugti said modern surveillance facilities would help law enforcement agencies monitor the movement of criminal elements, identify suspicious activities in a timely manner and respond more effectively to emergencies.
Punjab to Share Expertise and Technical Resources
The collaboration is expected to give Balochistan access to Punjab’s experience in developing and operating Safe City infrastructure.
Through training, technical guidance and institutional cooperation, the initiative aims to strengthen the province’s ability to use modern technology for crime prevention and security management.
The agreement also reflects closer coordination between the two provincial governments on public safety, with both sides seeking to improve security systems through shared expertise and resources.
