Apple Adjusts App Store Fees Under EU Pressure

In response to EU antitrust laws, Apple introduces new fee structure and allows external payment links for developers.

Apple has always been a symbol of innovation and creativity, setting new standards in the world of technology. Its innovation is not limited to its products but extends to its marketing, design philosophy, and user experience. Through products like the iPhone, MacBook, iPad, AirPods, and Apple Watch, Apple has transformed everyday life.

According to international media reports, Apple has recently made changes to its App Store policies and fees in the European Union to comply with the European Commission’s antitrust regulations. These changes in Apple App Store Fees aim to eliminate certain commercial restrictions, giving developers more freedom to guide users toward external payment methods.

Apple has announced a new fee structure under which developers will pay a 20% processing fee on App Store purchases, which may be reduced to as low as 13% under the Small Business Program. This update to Apple App Store Fees also includes a 5% to 15% fee on external payment redirections.

These adjustments, aligned with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, are expected to help Apple avoid fines of up to €50 million. However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has harshly criticized the move, calling it a “mockery of justice.”
