Former Rockstar Games director Obbe Vermeij has downplayed the recent GTA 6 leaks, calling them a “nothing burger” just days before the highly anticipated game’s next major reveal.
The comments come after alleged gameplay clips surfaced online over the past week, with an individual or group using the name CyberLeek reportedly sharing videos and maps connected to the upcoming Rockstar title.
Vermeij, who previously worked as a director at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, addressed the leaks in a post on X.
“Calm down everybody. The leaks are a nothing burger,” Vermeij wrote.
He explained that the leaked material did not contain major story spoilers or significant revelations. According to him, most of the footage appeared to be unfinished material that was never intended to be publicly released ahead of the official presentation.
Vermeij also argued that the leaks would have limited impact because most future players are not constantly searching the internet for leaked footage.
“90% of future players don’t spend their time on the internet looking for video snippets. They don’t have the time and don’t want spoilers,” he wrote.
Former Rockstar director recalls ‘Hot Coffee’ controversy
Vermeij compared the current situation with the infamous Hot Coffee controversy, which caused major problems for Rockstar management.
Recalling the incident, he said he had been working at Rockstar during the controversy and described it as a nightmare for management at Rockstar New York, while having far less impact on Rockstar North.
He argued that the current GTA 6 leaks were “far less consequential” than the Hot Coffee incident.

Despite the controversy, Vermeij remains highly optimistic about Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster.
He predicted that GTA 6 could remain commercially successful for many years, describing the leaked footage as only a “tiny blip” in what he expects to be a long-lasting phenomenon.
Take-Two takes action over alleged leaks
The leaks have reportedly prompted Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, to seek subpoenas involving Microsoft, Discord and FitHub as part of efforts to identify those responsible for distributing the material.
Rockstar is preparing to unveil its GTA 6 Extended Look, which is scheduled to premiere on August 27, 2026.
With anticipation surrounding the game already at extraordinary levels, the upcoming presentation is expected to give fans a closer look at Rockstar’s most ambitious title yet.
