ISLAMABAD: Federal ministers Attaullah Tarar, Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Ali Pervez Malik on Monday briefed the media on the implementation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s targeted fuel relief scheme for eligible citizens.
The ministers explained the scope of the programme, eligibility criteria and registration mechanism through which beneficiaries can avail themselves of relief on petrol purchases.
Who is eligible for fuel relief?
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the prime minister had launched a targeted petroleum relief programme covering two-wheelers, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Under the scheme, users of motorcycles and other two-wheelers would receive relief on up to 20 litres of petrol.
Owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc would be eligible for a subsidy on up to 30 litres of petrol.
The minister said the programme had been divided into two stages, with eligible citizens required to complete registration before receiving the fuel relief.
How to register for the scheme
Shaza said applicants would first have to send their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number through a SIM registered in their own name.
Applicants would then be required to provide their vehicle registration details, along with the relevant province or city and the vehicle’s registration date.
How can you apply for Rs100-per-litre petrol relief?
She clarified that the province entered during registration must correspond to the location where the vehicle or motorcycle is registered.
Applicants would receive a notification if any required information was missing from their registration.
According to the minister, registration only needs to be completed once.
How beneficiaries can claim relief
Once registered, eligible citizens can avail themselves of the fuel relief when purchasing petrol by sending the message “TOK” to 9771.
The government is presenting the programme as a targeted measure aimed at providing relief to citizens using smaller vehicles amid elevated fuel costs.
Further details regarding the scheme’s implementation and distribution of the subsidy are expected to be provided by the government as the programme rolls out.
