QUETTA: Security forces have killed four militants during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, security sources said on Monday.
According to the sources, the operation was carried out in the Aphan-e-Koh and Prom areas after intelligence reports indicated the presence of India-backed militants.
Security forces engaged the militants in an intense exchange of fire during the operation, resulting in the deaths of four terrorists, the sources said.
A large cache of sophisticated weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the militants killed during the operation, they added.
Security sources said operations in the area would continue until the last terrorist was eliminated.
Five militants killed near Kalat
The Panjgur operation came a day after security forces foiled an attempt by militants to disrupt public movement on the N-25 highway near Kalat.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), five militants were killed and 23 hostages were safely recovered during the operation.
The military’s media wing said the militants had established a checkpoint on the highway with the alleged aim of abducting passengers, extorting money and seizing vehicles.
Security forces kill 11 terrorists in Balochistan operations, sources say
Security forces responded promptly and killed five terrorists, while a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was recovered from their hideout.
Six trucks, three buses and two cars were also recovered from the site, according to the ISPR.
Eight militants killed in Hangu
In another operation a day earlier, eight militants were killed while six Pakistan Army personnel were martyred during an exchange of fire in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, according to the ISPR.
The military said the clash took place between a security forces convoy and militants it identified as Fitna al-Khawarij.
The ISPR said troops effectively engaged the militants, resulting in the deaths of eight terrorists.
Six security personnel, including Captain Abuzar Farooq and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, who were leading their troops from the front, were killed during the intense exchange of fire, according to the military.
Pakistan has faced increased militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan.
