The Pakistani government has rejected foreign media reports about Imran Khan’s prison conditions and health. The Information Ministry described the reports as misleading and based on disputed claims.
The ministry said official records provide a different account of the former prime minister’s situation. It also rejected allegations that Khan was being held in punitive solitary confinement.
According to the ministry, Khan’s imprisonment followed convictions by courts of competent jurisdiction. Officials said his treatment in prison remained subject to regulations, court orders and security requirements.
Government Cites Prison Records
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Khan has received various facilities during his imprisonment. These reportedly include family visits, telephone calls, reading material and television access.
Officials also said he has access to home-cooked food and exercise equipment. The ministry described his accommodation as an exclusive seven-cell compound.
According to the statement, the compound includes sleeping, sanitation and exercise facilities. The government said these arrangements contradict claims that Khan has been completely isolated.
Prison records reportedly show around 198 interview sessions involving more than 900 visitor entries. The visitors included family members, lawyers, doctors, political representatives and Khan’s sisters.
The ministry said Khan was also allowed weekly meetings with his wife. The latest such meeting was reportedly recorded on August 4.
Records Show Contact With Family
The government also cited records of telephone and WhatsApp communication with family members. These communications reportedly involved relatives living both inside Pakistan and abroad.
The ministry said one recorded call took place with one of Khan’s sons on March 21. It also cited meetings between Khan and his sisters on August 18, 19 and 25.
Officials said these records challenge claims that Khan has been completely cut off from his family. However, the government maintained that visits remain subject to prison regulations and security requirements.
Government Rejects Claims of Inadequate Medical Care
The ministry also rejected allegations that Khan has been denied appropriate medical treatment. It said he has undergone around 30 medical examinations since his imprisonment.
These examinations reportedly involved specialist teams and medical boards. Institutions mentioned include PIMS, Shifa International and Shaukat Khanum.
The Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital was also involved in his medical care. The prison doctor has reportedly conducted regular examinations as well.

The ministry said Khan received specialist treatment for a retinal condition. His treatment reportedly included five anti-VEGF injections and retinal imaging.
He also received medication and follow-up examinations, according to the government. Specialist assessments were reportedly conducted in July and again on August 21.
The ministry said those assessments described Khan as “oriented, stable”. It added that no acute or unmanaged deterioration was recorded.
Government Refers to Sister’s Medical Assessment
The ministry also referred to comments attributed to Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Niazi. According to the statement, she recently described him as “100 percent fit”.
The ministry said she also cited a blood pressure reading of 120/80. It added that Khan’s eye condition had almost completely recovered.
The government said Supreme Court directions concerning Khan’s medical care were implemented. It added that his sister was present during the examination.
Supreme Court Directions on Medical Information
The ministry said the Supreme Court had issued directions concerning Khan’s medical information. According to officials, these directions restrict public disclosure of his medical reports.
The government said Khan’s family, political party and associated lawyers were instructed accordingly. They were directed not to share his health condition or medical reports publicly.
The restriction reportedly remains in place pending further court proceedings. The ministry argued that medical issues should be assessed through clinical records.
It also said judicial directions should guide discussion of Khan’s medical condition. Officials cautioned against turning medical matters into a political controversy.
Government Addresses Claims About His Sons
The ministry also responded to reports concerning Khan’s sons and their travel to Pakistan. Officials said both sons hold valid National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis.
According to the government, these cards are recognised travel documents for entering Pakistan. The statement therefore rejected claims suggesting their travel was impossible.
The ministry urged foreign media outlets to distinguish verified records from contested political allegations. It said custodial and medical claims should be examined through documented evidence.
The government maintained that reasonable regulation of visits and communications does not amount to denial. It said such regulations can arise from prison rules, court orders and security requirements.
